Board Members from an Expert Witness background

At the next election we will be looking to appoint three Board Members from an Expert Witness background.

The agreed structure of the Board seeks to ensure adequate representation of the membership:

50. To ensure this representation, the Board shall be comprised of no more than nine people from an Expert Witness background and no more than six people from the Legal System.

51. Of those from an Expert Witness background the Board will number no more than three Medical Experts. There shall also be two Accountancy Experts to support the financial governance of the organisation.

In line with this, we are looking to appoint one expert who is a qualified accountant and two experts from a non-medical background.

 

Board Members from the legal profession

We also have vacancies for up to three people from the legal profession, in particular Solicitors, Barristers, and those within the Judiciary.

 

It is an exciting time to join the Board of EWI as we continue to make strides in delivering against our Strategic Plan. This is a great opportunity to help shape our future, develop the organisation and promote the importance of Expert Witnesses.

 

The role

We are looking for members with a passion and commitment to the development of the Institute who can demonstrate:

  • extensive experience as a practising expert or as a member of the legal profession
  • a commitment to and understanding of EWI’s mission and strategic objectives
  • a commitment to serving on committees and supporting the membership with advice and guidance
  • an understanding of the duties of the role
  • experience of strategic decision making and the ability to operate effectively at board level
  • excellent communication skills and the ability to act as an ambassador for EWI and to engage in advocacy activities

Membership Manager (Full-Time, 28-35 Hours per week)

Contract: Permanent

Hours: Full-Time (35 Hours per week – though we will consider applications from people wishing to work 28 Hours), to be worked Monday to Friday. This role requires occasional evening work to host webinars. Time off in lieu will be granted where appropriate. The arrangements for this will be agreed in advance with the individual.

Salary: £35,900-£40,900 (pro-rata if less than 35 hrs) per annum, plus additional payment in recognition of the additional costs incurred due to working from home. You will be paid a pro-rata sum of the amount set annually by the Board.

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

Responsible for: Membership Officer

Work location: Home working. You must have space to be able to set up a workspace at home.

The Expert Witness Institute (EWI) is the voice of the Expert Witness community; championing experts from all professional disciplines and the lawyers who use their services.

Our mission is to support the proper administration of justice and the early resolution of disputes through high-quality expert evidence from specialists.

There has never been a more exciting time to work with the EWI. Following the implementation of a new fully integrated Association Management System and website and a range of changes to improve the member journey, we now have both the framework and the tools we need to grow the membership and participation in our Training and Events exponentially. This role provides crucial administrative support for the successful operational delivery of EWI’s operations through effective management of membership recruitment and retention, including administrative services and development of the membership offer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day delivery of membership management and administration
  • Deliver a high-quality membership journey through all phases of membership
  • Respond to member queries, ensuring appropriate support is provided
  • Manage and support the Membership Officer
  • Provide support to the Membership Committee
  • Advise on member-focused strategies, plans and measurement that improve member recruitment and retention
  • Collaborate within the wider team to ensure that processes and systems are fit for purpose and harness the best of the CRM system
  • Use data and statistics to improve reporting and enhance business effectiveness

The successful candidate will be a results driven, positive, and highly motivated self-starter, with excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage their own workload. They will be an excellent communicator who can articulate the value of EWI’s products and services.
