The Expert Witness Institute has arranged a Professional Indemnity insurance scheme on behalf of members to cover the activities they carry out as expert witnesses through Horner Blakey Insurance Brokers.
The Expert Witness Institute requires all its members to have Professional Indemnity insurance cover in respect of their expert witness work.
The Professional Indemnity insurance scheme is administered by Horner Blakey, and has an annual renewal date of the 1st November. Members of the Expert Witness Institute can join at any time throughout the year, and will be covered subject to the satisfactory completion of a Professional Indemnity insurance declaration form and payment of the premium to Horner Blakey. PLEASE NOTE: The policy is currently only available to members who are either permanent residents of the UK or own a UK registered entity (a Ltd company for example).
Horner Blakey also offers Run-off Cover (for those who have retired from Expert Witness Practice) for EWI members who have been members of the EWI Block Policy for at least one year and who are retaining EWI membership (this will usually be Retired membership) . Run-off Cover is rated at the same premium as the lowest turnover band. How long the Run-off cover should be applied for will depend on individual circumstances - on average this is for 2-3 years.

Horner Blakey will find the most suitable provider and preferential rates for your circumstances and will get in touch directly with you. Each member who successfully joins the scheme will receive an indivudal Statement of facts, schedule and certificate of Insurance.
PLEASE NOTE that irrespective of when members of the Expert Witness Institute join the Professional Indemnity insurance scheme, the full annual premium will be payable. As this is a special scheme, several restrictions have been put in to place which suit the majority of members. However, if you fall outside these criteria Horner Blakey will be happy to obtain quotes for you individually. Please contact them directly to discuss your requirements.

If you are a member, please download and complete the declaration form. Please then email your completed declaration form to membership@ewi.org.uk
If you are not currently a member of the Expert Witness Institute, please download the Declaration Form and upload this as your evidence of Professional Indemnity Insurance in your application. Once your membership has been approved, we will pass this over to Horner Blakey.
